Reefer Madness! Formally titled “Tell Your Children,” this cautionary tale from 1938 features a trio of drug dealers and innocent teens who become addicted to “reefer cigarettes.” Here are the teen sweethearts, smooching while studying Shakespeare and innocently drinking hot chocolate. After Mary’s mother busts up the amour, Jimmy falls into a fountain.
In the drug den of the dealers, reefer makes the pulses race as fast as the pianist’s hands on the ivories. Look at that statue and the flower arrangement in the background – classiest drug den I’ve ever seen.
Reefer cigarettes lead to premarital sex.
This kiss involves strong arming with elbows.
Oh lordy, help us all! We must save our children!
Here is Reefer Madness (1938), if you’ve never seen it.
My favorite musical number from Reefer Madness musical.
