This amazing cloche is hand-crafted by Behida Dolic, one of the most talented people selling on etsy. Her designs are breathtaking & delicious – a dangerous combination for me and my tastes! I love how cloches like these are just little sculptures to wear on one’s head.

I have a very small head (my mother always laughs at me) but it’s quite handy for fitting into tiny 1920s cloche hats, which are usually size 21 and smaller. The next time you’re at the beauty parlor, request for the back to be “stacked” and they’ll usually cut your hair shorter beginning at the occipital bone. Think Louise Brooks. It’s a very handy cut to have for making hats fit. There is your beauty tip for the day.

Most of my cloches are ill fitting at the moment because the back of my head is overgrown. I haven’t had my hair cut in a while because I haven’t any extra money – a ladies’ haircut in Austin is $50 in most places before tip! I feed myself on nearly $90 a month, so it doesn’t really make sense to spend food money on something that will grow back in 5 weeks. I can manage trimming the front and sides okay, but I can’t stack the back myself. I wish I could pay for just partial haircuts, because I would gladly pay $25 for just the back to be cut and the rest left alone. I have a special technique for cutting my hair that is probably not approved by most stylists. It involves dry cutting the ringlets and then twisting sections that I pincurl and thin them out.

Close up of kitten fabric! I borrowed this image from the Jitterbuggin Etsy shop. By the way, I own another blouse from this shop and I can’t say enough nice things about it. It’s all handmade in Portland, Oregon by the cutest girl, too!
I’m taking this last chance to go all out with my winter accessories. Stay tuned for the Shocking Pink faux fur stole and matching muff tomorrow!

Oh little cloche hat! I got it for a song on ebay forever and ever ago. It was one of the first things I ever got from the 1920s and I’ve treasured it ever since. It’s got it’s own little hat stand (a taxidermy bell jar, see below) on my dressing table. This shot below is from when I lived in Oregon in 20o6.

This item is perfect for the modern lady because it combines the uniqueness of vintage with the functionality of lingerie. It may be worn as an undergarment for the teasing flirt or as a simple dress for the tart. Ladies and gentlemen will melt at the sentimentality, and it’s much more tasteful than sliding one’s number on a cocktail napkin.

This hat is simply amazing. It’s all handmade by Behida of YellowField on etsy. I decided to order it before my big trip to Michigan last week and it was waiting for me when I got back to Texas. It arrived in a giant hat box and was carefully packed in tissue paper.

I have hand felted and shaped a cloche hat before (rather unsuccessfully) so I appreciate the craftsmanship and detail of this darling hat. The hat is altered to fit after you order it, so be sure to measure your head correctly or measure another cloche hat that fits your head well. It’s simply amazing from all angles and I received countless compliments when I wore it today. Please go visit Behida’s shop and ask for her hats for your holiday present!
Guilherme will be leaving back for Brazil in just a few short days, so I’m trying to cram as much fun dances, dinners and alone time with him as humanly possible. He and I had a fantastic time at Gadjo Disko on Saturday! Gadjo Disko is an Eastern European block party with manic dancing, fresh fruit, strippers, costumes, bubbles, glitter and lots and lots of fun. I’ve gone as a living doll, a golden sunbeam, and flapper vamp before. Gadjo Disko is put on, in part, by the ever-fabulous Angeliska, whose use of antlers and sheer clothings never cease to amaze me!

My outfit wasn’t as elaborate as previous Diskos, but I was satisfied to give my crumbling dress another go-around!

I think the secret to really dynamic and unique vintage is the ability of a garment to bend and transform through all spectrums. This gown has gone from gala to graveyard, from supping to dancing gracefully.

I bought this dress when I lived in Eugene, Oregon in 2005. I used to go to this fabulous store called Nobody’s Baby and befriended all of the shop girls. I found this white 1940s gown in a trunk at the back of the store, and it was still in pattern pieces. I bought it for $7, stitched up the bodice and wore it to several events before I decided to dye it green and embroider down the front of it.

Left: This is what it looked like just stitched together:

Right: This is me on Day of the Dead last year. I’ve dyed the gown green and added my father’s epitaph in embroidery down the middle.
